Hussein Khaddour
Hussein Khaddour is an experienced attorney, arbitrator and legal professional with more than two decades of practice advising and representing clients across a broad range of sophisticated and commercially significant matters. His practice encompasses construction, engineering and infrastructure, energy, oil and gas, maritime and shipping, commercial transactions, corporate disputes, real estate, employment, taxation, banking, and legal services for international and non-governmental organisations.
Mr. Khaddour has served as Managing Partner of Khaddour & Co. Law Office since 2002, where he has advised on and handled complex legal matters and high-value disputes before local and international courts and arbitral tribunals.
His practice includes extensive experience in commercial and international arbitration and dispute resolution, together with substantial expertise in contract drafting and negotiation, legal risk management, procurement, regulatory compliance and the resolution of disputes arising from major commercial, construction, investment and real estate projects.
A distinctive aspect of Mr. Khaddour’s professional career is his involvement in legislative and regulatory development in Syria. He contributed to the drafting of a new Maritime Code in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport and served as a member of the committee involved in drafting a new Intellectual Property Law in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy and Trade. He has also contributed to a number of international projects examining and developing the legal and regulatory framework for trade, investment, public-private partnerships and commercial activity in Syria.
Mr. Khaddour has developed particular experience in advising international humanitarian and non-governmental organisations, providing legal support on their operations and activities in Syria, including employment matters, regulatory compliance, contracts and commercial arrangements.
His professional background is complemented by international academic and professional experience. He holds an LLM in International Trade and Maritime Law from the University of Southampton and previously lectured at the Faculty of Law of Damascus University. He has also participated as a speaker and trainer at international conferences and professional programmes addressing commercial and civil law in the Middle East, international trade, investment, energy, and international commercial arbitration.
Mr. Khaddour is actively involved in several professional institutions. He serves as a Board Member and Treasurer of ICC Syria and previously served for six years as a member of the ICC Court of Arbitration. He is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, the ICC Banking Commission and the Damascus Bar Association.
His professional standing has been recognised by leading international legal directories, including Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners, which have highlighted his experience in transportation, shipping, arbitration, corporate, commercial and employment matters, as well as his work advising international organisations and businesses operating in Syria.
